Gardens

All of our gardens have been started using the no-till lasagna gardening method of layering cardboard, compost, and mulch directly on top of grass.

Hilltop Garden: Since it is completely exposed to deer and not yet irrigated, this is an appropriate spot for crops that are drought tolerant and deer resistant, such as rosemary, sage, lavender, echinacea, poppies, onions and garlic.

Perennial Blueberry and Asparagus Patches: These perennials need time to mature but should then provide harvests for many years.

Pollinator Garden: This NWF-certified Wildlife Habitat includes native and non-native flowers and shrubs, additional wildlife habitat such as intentional piles of sticks and a snag, and water sources--a couple simple bird baths.

Pasture-Orchard: Inside of the Sniffspot, permaculture "food forest guilds" have inspired our planting of fruit trees and other useful plants.

Upick Veggie Planters coming soon, but they will initially only be accessible to Sniffspot guests as they are within the Sniffspot area. By locating the planters along the inside of this garden's fence, we hope to discourage deer from jumping the fence to feast on our produce. Planters are needed in this spot because it is also a septic drainfield--fine for growing grass, but not suitable for digging or growing food.
